I'm typing stuff in Google, and found somethings about GILA being an air traffic control AI thing, and of course, I found the page of IXO, which is part of DARPA, and "Edwards Air Force Test etc etc" turns out to be in Nevada actually!

But man, I'm tired, I need coffee, hopefully smarter guys than me will follow up on this.

Looks to me like the videos were getting to boring or the cash /time availability ran out.
But it started off well, I just hate stories with poor endings.

    Unless its not the end!!!....

Checking it out seems pointless to me. If its a genuine thing, then it will be well covered up and if its not then. well. there wont be anything.

I really was hoping for a big climax... not a whimper.

Still it made me think a lot. :)

I doubt that anyone was “hoping” for a climactic ending.

When faced with impossibility and/or anything confrontational to our reality, especially when it is also plausibly deniable, we have come to wish and/or beg for an “ending”.

We need someone to jump out and say “Sorry chums... It was all a bunch of bullocks”, so that we can sleep easier in a world that is not complicated by uncertainty.

What is interesting about this story is that there is no “conclusion”. However, what is enigmatic about this story, is that no individual has been rewarded for any of this...

...A lack of personal gain is in conflict with human nature.

Hey, I picked a good day to check back on these boards!

I agree with suid. Here's my own version of the thing: the whole series of videos doesn't seem -designed- to go viral, I think it went viral by accident. Think about it, it doesn't feature anything flashy or crazy, or even memorable things you can tell your friends about without having to go "you kinda need to see the whole series" (been there, trust me). Thinking of all the reasons why Eido is boring from a purely entertainment point of view, its kind of a miracle that it went viral at all. And then there's what suid said: Eido never sold anything, or advertised anything, as far as I can tell, this website ~costs~ money, but never ~made~ any. So why? Why all the effort? If there's only two choices: either it was entertainment, or it was real, the first one kinda flops on us.

So I tell to myself there must be a third choice. Heeh! ^^!!

well, even though it isn't common entertainment, this level intellectual discourse is stimulating and to a handful of us, thrilling. i just stumbled on Eidolon on sunday night, and I was very disappointed to find that it ended where it did. whether the mind of an synthetically intelligent being, or a talented writer working out transhuman ideals and rationality, with SOASJapan, it was shown how beneficial interacting with this fashion of thought could affect real people with real problems. what a great tool it would be to have someone like Eidolon in your pocket to consult with when you need to ponder unknown consequences.

ps. how have you regular members remained engaged in the Eidolon project in the past few months since its abandonment? have you tried to spread the news, and if so, how successful have you been?

Hey mkknyr, I admit I dont visit these forums as often as I used to. I haven't really tried to spread the news, if anything Eidolon's name pops up in conversation sometimes, but then its awkward trying to explain it. I don't really know if Eidolon has a message, other than his "causes for happiness" thing, and maybe that we'll have to jump the Transhumanist bandwagon or be left behind when the time comes. Thats a lot to chew too, I admit.

Anyway, yeah, if Eidolon could run on an Iphone (maybe through network computing, cloud computing, or whatever they call it?) that would be ......... more than amazing. It would change the world, literally.
