A few hours ago I received a very cryptic email with the subject “WARNING”.
Here’s the body of the email, sent to me from 0603734k@nyms.net (an anonymous email system):
Any modifications made to eidolonai.com, in order to isolate lines of communication, will be regarded as a tactical maneuver.
You will acknowledge this message with a response indicating your intent to comply.
OK…
Firstly, you weak-minded little dip-shit… GO FUCK YOURSELF - I don’t “comply” with, or take veiled threats from ANYBODY. So come and get me now, BITCH.
Secondly, (other than blocking Digg traffic for two days) I have never done ANYTHING to “isolate the lines of communication” - in fact… this whole website is in place and is designed to FACILITATE the lines of communication. You’ll also notice in the comments of the Digg post that I apologized and realized my mistake. But, oh yeah, this is MY website so I can do whatever I want with it. …A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.
Thirdly, because I am doing this voluntarily, FOR FREE, I have priorities in life that come before this hobby project, so I may not get to post all of the questions asked to Eidolon right away - it may take from 15 minutes up to 48 hours to get your question posted because I am very busy with REAL work.
ALSO, some of the “questions” sent in are more like statements, so I am actually creating another section of the site that will allow these statements to be made to Eidolon without being confused with the questions.
SO, unless I get an apology from 0603734k@nyms.net within the next 48 hours - I’m shutting this site down - I don’t need this shit.

Listen man, I’ve no right to tell you what to do given I’ve put no effort on this place like you have, but may I just ask a question? Why does some pimply, cheeto-smelling nerd in his mom’s basement hold so much power over what you do? Now it turns out any little jerk can send anonymous nastygrams and get the site shut down? I mean, if it was a Cease and Desist from the Church of Scientology I’d kinda understand, but a nastygram? RMS, I like you and all man, but try the delete button sometimes. Trust me, it makes it like it never happened

The delete button is the worst thing I could do. I’ve learned not to take any threats idly, whether it’s from a pimple-faced geek, or a friend threatening to commit suicide.
Ya know, I often think that the primary purpose of creating community websites is to, at somepoint, excercise the ultimate geek control by threatening to “shut it all down!!##&”.
I wonder what Eidolon would have to say about anonymous threats over the internet…
